Do you feel you should be getting more out of life? That life is passing you by? That ‘switching off’ is an impossibility? That you have a problem you just can’t solve, such as:

Bereavement, addiction, anxiety, depression, phobias, abuse, relationship conflict and family breakdown, to simply achieving a stress-free life with peace of mind.

Psychotherapy & Counselling

could be just the answer to enjoying life to the full.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Solution-Focussed Brief Therapy (SFBT) produce powerful solutions for all major life-changing problems

Psychotherapy & Counselling – the Holistic approach

In Psychotherapy and Counselling, clients are treated as a whole person, mind, body and spirit. It is solution rather than problem-focused as it is always preferable to help the client in the direction he or she wishes to go (goal-setting) as opposed to spending lengthy periods of time on where the client has already come from (in the problem).

Based largely on Solution Focused Brief Therapy, conditions during sessions are created allowing clients to achieve effective and rapid results. It has been shown to be successful in challenging situations such as addiction, depression, child-protection, abuse, relationship conflict and family breakdown. Solution Focused approaches involve:

  • Focusing on resources rather than problems
  • Looking for what is right rather than what is wrong
  • Negotiating effective goals and creating preferred futures
  • Building expectation of change rather than dwelling on unwanted pasts
  • Finding the client's own way of changing

If any therapy works it leads to the client 'doing something different', so we start by trying to discover what the 'something different' might be. Instead of asking about the problem we ask: "What are your best hopes from this therapy?" The focus is then on what our client wants to achieve and the overall aim for therapy is established.

We then ask questions about how the person's life would look if their 'best hopes' were realised. Many clients will spend much of their first session describing what life would be like if the difficulties that brought them to therapy were resolved. Many people get stuck with their problem because they can't imagine what will replace it. Sometimes, beginning to picture a viable alternative is all that is necessary to start the natural process of change.

As we work with the person's natural tendency to strive towards perfection, combined with their life-force and energy, the results can be transformational.

Testimonials:

“My experiences of dealing with Linda were and still are, nothing but positive. Her gentle, non-invasive approach, kind words and invaluable advice helped me immensely when preparing for an oral exam (Viva voce) to defend my PhD research thesis in January 2008.

“Using cognitive behavioural therapy and relaxation techniques, Linda taught me how to change my negative, irrational, non-belief in my abilities into positive, self-belief. I also learnt how to incorporate these techniques into daily living and deal with most (!) stressful situations in a positive way. Linda helped me understand that overall, irrational emotions and phobias are indeed that, irrational, and definitely can be overcome.

“Ultimately, with Linda's help, my ‘dreaded’ oral exam was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and gave me the opportunity to discuss my research with lovely like-minded professionals.

“I am now looking forward to attending Linda's relaxation evenings as I am sure everyone will benefit from her genuinely calm and welcoming personality.”
